Introduction

Stainless steel is the material of choice when a part must resist corrosion, maintain strength at elevated temperatures, and withstand aggressive cleaning chemicals — all at the same time. CNC machining delivers the dimensional precision and surface finish quality that stainless steel's demanding applications require, while modern carbide and ceramic tooling makes what was once considered a "difficult-to-machine" material a routine daily operation at Fenglan.

We machine all common stainless grades: 303 (free-machining, excellent surface finish), 304/304L (general corrosion resistance, the most widely used grade), 316/316L (enhanced chloride and acid resistance, the standard for marine and pharmaceutical use), 17-4 PH (precipitation-hardened, high-strength aerospace grade), and 2205 Duplex (for severe corrosion combined with high stress). Post-machining passivation in citric or nitric acid is offered to restore and maximize the corrosion resistance of machined surfaces.

Applications

  • Food & Beverage Processing: 316L pump housings, impellers, valve bodies, and fittings in contact with food products or CIP (clean-in-place) chemicals.
  • Pharmaceutical & Biotech: Electropolished 316L fittings, reactor vessel nozzles, and fluid-path components meeting GMP and FDA guidelines.
  • Marine & Offshore: 316L and Duplex 2205 fasteners, pump shafts, and valve stems exposed to seawater, salt spray, and biofouling agents.
  • Chemical Processing: Pipe fittings, heat exchanger baffles, and reactor internals in acids, alkalis, and oxidizing environments.
  • Medical Devices: Surgical instruments, implant-trial components, and diagnostic equipment housings requiring sterilization compatibility (autoclave, EtO, gamma).
  • Aerospace & Defense: 17-4 PH high-strength structural fittings, landing gear components, and actuator rods where strength and weight efficiency are balanced.

Advantages

  • Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: 316L withstands chlorides, acids, and alkaline cleaners that would quickly destroy carbon steel or aluminum — minimizing maintenance cost and part replacement frequency.
  • High-Temperature Performance: Austenitic stainless steels retain useful strength to 800°C+ and resist scaling, making them suitable for exhaust systems, furnace components, and steam-line fittings.
  • Hygienic Surface Finish: Electropolishing reduces surface roughness to Ra ≤0.5 μm and removes embedded particles, creating a surface that bacteria cannot easily colonize — mandatory in pharmaceutical and food-grade piping.
  • Weldability (Low-Carbon Grades): 304L and 316L have <0.03% carbon, avoiding sensitization and intergranular corrosion in weld heat-affected zones.
  • Non-Magnetic Option: Annealed austenitic grades (304, 316) are non-magnetic, required in MRI equipment, sensitive measurement instruments, and certain military applications.
