A stepped motor shaft features two or more precision-turned diameters machined from a single blank, creating distinct shoulders that serve as axial locating faces for bearings, gears, pulleys, and retaining rings. This design eliminates the need for separate spacers or collars, reducing part count and assembly time.

Fenglan manufactures stepped shafts to customer drawings with shoulder runout held to within 0.01 mm. Standard step transitions are sharp (0.5 mm undercut) or radiused (R0.5–R3) per drawing. Materials range from 45# carbon steel for general drives to 316 stainless for corrosive environments.

Application

Stepped motor shafts are specified wherever multiple components must be axially located on a single rotating member:

  • Electric motor rotors — bearing seats at both ends with a rotor-stack seating diameter in between
  • Gearbox input/output shafts — separate shoulders for bearing, gear, and seal positions
  • Pump shafts — impeller seat + mechanical seal seat + bearing journal on one shaft
  • Conveyor drive shafts — sprocket and bearing mounts at fixed axial positions
  • Power tool armature shafts — commutator, bearing, and pinion gear on distinct diameters
  • Servo and stepper motor shafts — encoder coupling and load coupling at different diameters
