Carbon steel motor shafts are the most widely used shaft type in general-purpose industrial motors, pumps, and gearboxes. Fenglan's standard grades are 45# carbon steel (Chinese standard, equivalent to C45E / 1045) for balanced strength and machinability, and 40Cr alloy steel for applications requiring higher tensile strength or surface hardness after heat treatment.

Both grades are available quenched and tempered (Q+T) to HRC 28–32 as standard, or induction-hardened at journal and spline zones to HRC 48–55 for wear resistance. Factory-direct supply means competitive pricing at volumes from 10 to 100,000+ pieces per order.

We accept T/T (bank transfer), L/C at sight, PayPal (samples), and Western Union. A 30% deposit is required to confirm production, with the balance paid before shipment.

Standard lead time is 7–15 business days for regular orders; prototype samples ship within 3–5 days. We ship worldwide via DHL, FedEx, UPS, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and air freight. FOB Changzhou and CIF terms are both available. All goods are packed in export-standard cartons with foam padding or wooden crates for heavy items. A commercial invoice, packing list, and COA are provided with every shipment. For large OEM orders, customized packaging and private-label options are available upon request.

Q: What is the difference between 45# and 40Cr steel for motor shafts?
A: 45# carbon steel is a medium-carbon grade offering a good balance of strength, toughness, and machinability at low cost — suitable for most standard motor and pump applications. 40Cr adds chromium for higher hardenability, allowing through-hardening of larger diameters and achieving higher tensile strength (≥ 980 MPa vs. 600 MPa). Choose 40Cr when the shaft is subjected to high bending stress, shock loading, or requires deep induction hardening.

Q: Will carbon steel motor shafts rust if used in a humid environment?
A: Plain carbon steel will oxidize in humid or wet conditions. For indoor applications with moderate humidity, a zinc-plated or black-oxide finish provides adequate protection. For wet, outdoor, or washdown environments, we recommend upgrading to 304 or 316 stainless steel.

Q: Can you supply shafts already induction-hardened?
A: Yes. We perform induction hardening in-house on bearing journals, spline sections, and other wear zones to HRC 48–55. The rest of the shaft remains at Q+T hardness for toughness. The hardened depth (typically 1.5–4 mm) is confirmed by Vickers hardness testing.

Q: Do you have common motor shaft sizes in stock?
A: We maintain stock bar in common diameters (6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50 mm) in both 45# and 40Cr. Standard-profile shafts for IEC motor frames 63 to 315 can often be turned and dispatched within 5 business days.
