A compression gas spring — also called a push-type gas strut or gas lift — is the most common gas spring variant. It generates an outward (extending) force on the piston rod, effectively pushing the rod out of the cylinder. When you open the bonnet of a car, the lid of a toolbox, or the cover of a CNC machine guard, a compression gas spring is almost certainly doing the lifting work.

Fenglan's compression gas springs use cold-drawn seamless steel cylinders, hard-chrome-plated carbon steel rods, and precision-lapped end caps to achieve consistent force output within ±5% of the specified value. Forces from 20 N to 5,000 N and strokes from 10 mm to 800 mm are available from stock or short-run production.

We accept T/T (bank transfer), L/C at sight, PayPal (samples), and Western Union. A 30% deposit is required to confirm production, with the balance paid before shipment.

Standard lead time is 7–15 business days for regular orders; prototype samples ship within 3–5 days. We ship worldwide via DHL, FedEx, UPS, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and air freight. FOB Changzhou and CIF terms are both available. All goods are packed in export-standard cartons with foam padding or wooden crates for heavy items. A commercial invoice, packing list, and COA are provided with every shipment. For large OEM orders, customized packaging and private-label options are available upon request.

Q: How do I calculate the correct gas spring force for my application?
A: The required F1 force depends on the panel weight, the hinge position, and the gas spring mounting points. The basic formula is: F1 = (panel weight × distance from hinge to panel CoG) ÷ (distance from hinge to gas spring mounting point on panel). Our engineering team offers free force calculation — simply send a sketch with dimensions and panel weight.

Q: What is the difference between F1 and F2 force in a gas spring datasheet?
A: F1 is the extension force measured at the fully compressed (shortest) position — this is the peak force the spring exerts. F2 is the extension force at the fully extended (longest) position, which is always lower than F1 due to gas expansion. The ratio F1/F2 is typically 1.2–1.4 for a well-designed spring.

Q: Can I lock a compression gas spring in a partially open position?
A: Standard compression gas springs do not lock — they extend continuously until the panel reaches the end of travel. If you need to hold a panel at an intermediate angle, you need a locking gas spring (detent or cable-operated lock). We supply both types.

Q: The gas spring I received seems weaker than specified — why?
A: Gas spring force increases with temperature. If tested in a cold warehouse (5 °C) vs. a warm workshop (25 °C), force can differ by 8–12%. Always test at the rated operating temperature. Force also decreases slightly as the spring breaks in over the first 500 cycles — this is normal and accounted for in our ±5% tolerance at ambient temperature after 200 cycles.
