A heavy duty gas spring is a hydro-pneumatic device that uses compressed nitrogen gas — sealed inside a cylinder with a sliding piston rod — to provide a controlled, smooth, and consistent pushing or pulling force. Unlike mechanical coil springs, gas springs deliver a near-constant force throughout their stroke, require no manual adjustment, and never suffer metal fatigue from cyclical compression.

Fenglan manufactures gas springs from 20 N to 5,000 N in stroke lengths from 10 mm to 800 mm, covering compression, tension, and locking variants. All cylinders are cold-drawn seamless steel or 316 stainless, with chrome-plated piston rods sealed by high-performance NBR or FKM seals rated for –30 °C to +80 °C.

We accept T/T (bank transfer), L/C at sight, PayPal (samples), and Western Union. A 30% deposit is required to confirm production, with the balance paid before shipment.

Standard lead time is 7–15 business days for regular orders; prototype samples ship within 3–5 days. We ship worldwide via DHL, FedEx, UPS, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and air freight. FOB Changzhou and CIF terms are both available. All goods are packed in export-standard cartons with foam padding or wooden crates for heavy items. A commercial invoice, packing list, and COA are provided with every shipment. For large OEM orders, customized packaging and private-label options are available upon request.

Q: How is the force of a gas spring specified?
A: Gas spring force is specified as the extension force (F1) at the fully compressed position — typically the highest force in the stroke. Some catalogues quote the retraction force (F2) at fully extended position. Always confirm which value is being quoted. Fenglan quotes F1 by default, with F1/F2 ratio and force-stroke curve available on request.

Q: Can I get a gas spring with a custom force not listed in your catalogue?
A: Yes. The nitrogen charge pressure is set at the factory to achieve a specific force, so virtually any force between 20 N and 5,000 N is achievable in a given cylinder OD. Send us your required F1 force, stroke, and compressed length and we will configure the spring accordingly.

Q: What is the difference between a compression gas spring and a tension gas spring?
A: A compression gas spring pushes the rod outward — the rod extends when load is removed, providing a lifting or opening force. A tension gas spring pulls the rod inward — it resists extension and provides a closing or retracting force. Both use the same basic cylinder-and-piston design; the internal geometry determines the direction.

Q: How long do gas springs last?
A: Standard gas springs are rated for ≥ 50,000 full stroke cycles. In typical lid-support applications (opened 5 times per day) this equates to over 27 years of service. Premium FKM seals extend rating to ≥ 100,000 cycles. Premature failure is almost always caused by operating outside the temperature range or mechanical damage to the chrome rod.

Q: Can gas springs be used in any orientation?
A: Most gas springs are designed to operate with the rod pointing downward (rod-down) as the standard orientation. Rod-up mounting is possible but may reduce seal life by 20–30% because the oil lubricating the seal pool migrates away from the seal. Inform us of your mounting orientation when ordering and we will configure the oil fill accordingly.
