Fork Spade Connecting Terminal Overview

A fork spade connecting terminal — also known as a spade lug or fork lug — is an open-end crimp terminal that slides onto a screw or stud and can be removed without fully unscrewing the fastener. The U-shaped fork tip engages the screw shank, allowing quick connect-and-disconnect in panels and equipment where wires must be frequently repositioned or swapped during maintenance.

Fenglan manufactures fork spade terminals in tin-plated electrolytic copper, accepting wire sizes from 0.5 mm² to 95 mm² (AWG 20 – 3/0) with stud-hole sizes M3 to M12. Insulated PVC and nylon barrel versions are available in colour-coded sleeves for polarity and circuit identification.

We accept T/T (bank transfer), L/C at sight, PayPal (samples), and Western Union. A 30% deposit is required to confirm production, with the balance paid before shipment.

Standard lead time is 7–15 business days for regular orders; prototype samples ship within 3–5 days. We ship worldwide via DHL, FedEx, UPS, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and air freight. FOB Changzhou and CIF terms are both available. All goods are packed in export-standard cartons with foam padding or wooden crates for heavy items.   • Q: What is the difference between a fork terminal and a ring terminal?
  • A: A ring terminal has a fully closed eyelet that encircles the stud, providing maximum pull-out resistance — ideal for permanent connections subject to vibration. A fork terminal has an open U-shaped tip that can slide off a loosened stud without fully removing the fastener, making it faster to service. Choose ring terminals for permanent connections and fork terminals where the wire must be removed regularly.
  • Q: What crimping tool do I need for fork spade terminals?
  • A: For insulated fork terminals up to 6 mm², any standard ratchet crimping pliers with red/blue/yellow colour-coded dies (the most common type sold by electrical suppliers) are suitable. For uninsulated terminals in sizes 10 mm² and above, use a dedicated indent or hexagonal die crimper matched to the terminal barrel diameter. We can recommend compatible crimp dies on request.
  • Q: Can fork terminals be used on stranded and solid wire?
  • A: Fork spade terminals are designed primarily for stranded wire, where the crimp barrel compresses all strands into a solid gas-tight mass. Solid wire can be used up to 2.5 mm² if the barrel diameter accommodates it, but stranded wire of the same cross-section always provides a superior crimp joint due to the increased contact surface area.
  • Q: Are your fork terminals suitable for aluminium conductors?
  • A: Standard tin-plated copper fork terminals are not recommended for aluminium conductors because galvanic corrosion at the copper-aluminium interface increases contact resistance over time. For aluminium wiring, specify our bi-metallic (AL/CU) terminal variant with anti-oxidant compound pre-applied in the barrel.
