A industrial drive keyed shaft has one or more longitudinal keyway slots machined into its surface. A matching key — typically a parallel key or Woodruff key — fits into this slot and engages a keyway in the mating hub, creating a positive mechanical connection that transmits torque while preventing relative rotation.

Fenglan machines keyways to DIN 6885 (parallel keys) and DIN 6888 (Woodruff keys) as standard, with width and depth tolerances held to JS9/N9 for a snug, non-rattle fit. Multiple keyways at different angular positions or along the shaft length are available from a single setup.

We accept T/T (bank transfer), L/C at sight, PayPal (samples), and Western Union. A 30% deposit is required to confirm production, with the balance paid before shipment.

Standard lead time is 7–15 business days for regular orders; prototype samples ship within 3–5 days. We ship worldwide via DHL, FedEx, UPS, sea freight (FCL/LCL), and air freight. FOB Changzhou and CIF terms are both available. All goods are packed in export-standard cartons with foam padding or wooden crates for heavy items. A commercial invoice, packing list, and COA are provided with every shipment. For large OEM orders, customized packaging and private-label options are available upon request.

Q: What is the difference between a parallel key and a Woodruff key?
A: A parallel key (DIN 6885) is a rectangular key that fits in a straight slot running along the shaft — suitable for full-length hubs and higher torque. A Woodruff key (DIN 6888) is semicircular, fits in a circular pocket, and is self-aligning — preferred for tapered shafts and lighter loads such as steering columns and pump shafts.

Q: Can I specify the keyway position (angular orientation) on the shaft?
A: Yes. Keyway angular position is specified on your drawing and held to ±0.5° in our machining fixtures. Multiple keyways at different angular positions are also available.

Q: What tolerances do you recommend for a sliding fit vs. a fixed fit?
A: For a fixed (drive) fit, we recommend N9 keyway tolerance in the shaft paired with an H9 hub keyway. For a sliding or location fit, JS9 in the shaft with D10 in the hub allows axial adjustment without backlash.

Q: Do you supply the matching keys separately?
A: Yes. Parallel keys and Woodruff keys in the correct DIN dimensions can be supplied with the shaft. Keys are manufactured from 45# carbon steel as standard.
